Head Gear

Pack a wool or fleece hat for any day-hike or backpacking trip in any season—even in July. That’s because no other piece of clothing provides more essential warmth for its size. Plus, a hat is a simple way to regulate your body temperature on the trail. Cold sleepers and winter campers should also consider a balaclava—a wrap that completely covers the head and neck—to ward off the overnight chill.
